Exhibition shows connections between research and freedom

Press release from

From 15 May until December 2024, the Leibniz Science Cube will provide a look at Leibniz University Hannover’s research.

The Leibniz Science Cube, which is managed by Communications and Marketing, highlights research projects at Leibniz University Hannover that reflect each year’s “Science Year” topic. From 15 May 2024, the exhibition titled “Research in freedom, research for freedom” will present research topics and projects related to the topic of “freedom”. It will also cover Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz’s thoughts on freedom and free will.

The exhibition will show displays related to cancel culture, democracy education at schools, energy storage in the form of hydrogen, remembrance based on the example of the inner-German border, free speech in the age of fake news and populism, new treatments in biomedical engineering and Leibniz’s thoughts on free will.

The Leibniz Cube is located on the lower ground floor of the main university building ("Welfenschloss") at Leibniz University Hannover (Welfengarten 1). The exhibition has been designed so that it is accessible at all times and can be viewed individually.

The opening of the exhibition in the Leibniz Science Cube will take place as part of the lecture “History of a divided Germany: Between historical reappraisal and debates on commemorative culture” on Wednesday, 15 May 2024 at 6:30 pm. If you wish to attend, please register: www.uni-hannover.de/leibniz-science-cube. LUH and Science Year 2024 – Freedom

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research’s Science Year 2024 is devoted to the topic of “freedom”. Two anniversaries in particular are central: the Basic Law is 75 years old, and the peaceful revolution took place 35 years ago. The Science Year is focusing on the different dimensions of freedom – today, tomorrow and around the world. In 2024, Leibniz University Hannover invites those interested to take part in a diverse programme on the topic of “freedom” in the context of its research: www.uni-hannover.de/freiheit.
