A major success for the Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry at Leibniz Universität Hannover: Dr. Nadja-Carola Bigall has been awarded an ERC Starting Grant. With the ERC Starting Grants, the European Research Council (ERC) supports especially fundamental and visionary research up to the amount of € 1.5 mil. Scientific excellence is the crucial criterion here. The aim of Starting Grants is to support the scientific independence of early career researchers by enabling them to build up their own research teams.
Since 2013, Dr. Nadja-Carola Bigall has led an independent research group sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) at Leibniz Universität Hannover. The team investigates the production of materials based on nanoparticle components. The results of this work are now to be partly included in the project supported by ERC: MAEROSTRUC focuses on the dedicated array of nanoparticles, so as to generate ultra-light materials with new properties. A conductive material created in this way could be used e.g. in batteries in the future. The new materials could also have applications in photocatalysis, in touch screens and in sensors.
Dr. Nadja-Carola Bigall has been a researcher at Leibniz Universität Hannover since October 2012. After studying physics in Munich and Hamburg, and taking her PhD at TU Dresden, she spent some time as a postdoc at Philipps-Universität Marburg and the Italian Institute of Technology Genua.
