In cooperation with the institution of their choice, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation research fellows select their German host university. The Humboldt Ranking analyses the research visits of the foundation's fellows and is therefore an important indicator of where international researchers go. Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) has achieved a very good result in the latest ranking: LUH is ranked 11th out of all German universities included in the ranking (130 in total).
Over the past five years, a total of 85 Humboldt Foundation Fellows have conducted research at LUH. In engineering, LUH ranks 4th. The ranking also differentiates by scientific field.
Every year, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation enables more than 2,000 researchers from all over the world to spend a research period in Germany. In its latest ranking, the Humboldt Foundation analysed selected research locations of 6,480 international researchers who came to Germany with fellowships or prizes awarded by the foundation between 2018 and 2022. In order to avoid statistical bias due to differences in the size of host institutions, the ranking relates stays to the number of professorships at each university. There are separate Humboldt Rankings for higher education institutions and non-university research facilities or other institutions.
