Leibniz Universität Hannover supports the March for Science

Worldwide on 22th April 2017: Send out a clear message for the freedom of science!

The administration of Leibniz Universität Hannover endorses and supports the March for Science on 22nd April 2017, and calls upon its students, academic staff and employees to take part where possible in the march in Berlin, as the nationwide central venue, or in Göttingen as the venue in Lower Saxony.

The March for Science initiated in the USA is to take place in many German cities on 22nd April. The organisers call for a strong statement concerning the whole of society against the international trend of anti-science policies, which can be found not only in the USA but also in Europe.

President of Leibniz Universität Professor Volker Epping emphasises "Freedom of science is not negotiable and must not be restricted for the sake of short-term political or economic goals. This is also true for sciences that do not produce results of immediate technical and economic use."

Starting times for the March for Science in Berlin and Göttingen on 22nd April 2017:
Berlin: 13:00 Uhr, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
Göttingen: 11:00 Uhr, Altes Rathaus
