More than 220 experiments, exhibitions, presentations, guided tours, and hands-on activities will take place during A Night Out With Science ("Die Nacht, die Wissen schafft") at Leibniz University Hannover
Science is fascinating! On Saturday 10 November 2018 from 6 p.m. until midnight, visitors can experience that for themselves. Institutes and facilities of Leibniz University Hannover offer more than 220 activities - active participation is extremely welcome. Visitors can put together an individual schedule for the evening on the website www.dienachtdiewissenschafft.de. Additionally, visitors can download a special app and decide spontaneously which event they would like to attend.

There is much to explore at numerous locations along tramlines 4 and 5: For example, there will be a diverse entertainment programme for children and adults in the atrium of the main building ("Lichthof") at Welfengarten. One of the highlights: until 8 p.m., visitors can meet the Naturonauten Lili & Claudius at their mobile research station in the "Lichthof". Furthermore, researchers will demonstrate what laser light can do. And since learning makes you hungry, visitors can buy and enjoy a variety of food and beverages in the "Lichthof", sample the local superfood watercress, and decide which mineral water they like best.
Visitors who would like to learn more about the recently approved Clusters of Excellence PhoenixD, QuantumFrontiers, or Hearing4all can visit the institutes involved and see fascinating projects in the making. Experience state-of-the-art laboratories in the recently opened Hannover Institute of Technology (HITec), hear black holes, and interact with computers.
The Faculties of Law, Philosophy, and Economics invite you to a ScienceSlam on Conti campus at 9.15 p.m. Young visitors can convict burglars and learn about different instances in criminal proceedings. There will be music, food, and espresso in the Conti Lounge. Visitors who are interested in the financial market, should attend the presentation "Von A wie Aktien bis Z wie Zertifikate".
Hands-on activities on the roof of the department of Geodesy and Geoinformatics (Nienburger Str. 1) provide a look over the rooftops of the world and into the stars. Would you like to know how much various districts in Hannover are worth? Look no further! Can machines learn? How does that work? What happens if computers make their own decisions? How are nanoparticles formed, what can they be used for, and what is a quantum state? You will find the answers on the Schneiderberg campus and Hochhaus Appelstraße. This is also the ideal place for a short break in order to continue your evening well-fed with delicacies from the food truck.
Visit the world''s smallest bar in Herrenhausen, paint with light, and help researchers trace a gene that makes plants resistant to certain parasitic fungi.
This year, there will be a shuttle service that runs at regular intervals from Conti campus via all locations along Nienburger Straße to the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape Sciences in Herrenhausen.
The research campus in Marienwerder welcomes inquiring minds. Wind energy, concrete, bridges, and monster waves are part of the evening programme. In addition, Dr Beton demonstrates how resilient a concrete structure is, whilst traces in sand make sounds visible.
At the Hannover Centre for Production Technology (PZH) in Garbsen, all institutes of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering will be presenting their work with exhibits - including those institutes that will be moving to the new mechanical engineering campus across the street next year. Visitors can explore more than 40 research stations - some are tasty like the "metal" foundry processing chocolate, some are perceptive like the paddle that uses a sensor to tells guests how much power they use while paddling (like the machine tool that can do the same!). Others focus on experiments involving sports or music. Furthermore, children can search for a hidden treasure. A free shuttle service connects the tram station "Schönebecker Allee" (line 4) with the PZH and the Marienwerder campus.
The science communication event is organised by Leibniz University Hannover and takes place for the sixth time. The event addresses members of the public and aims at bringing together citizens and the researchers who work and teach in their local area, as well as highlighting their role and responsibility in society.
