„Midsommar“: Orchester der Leibniz Universität lädt zu Sinfoniekonzert in den Lichthof ein

"Midsommar": Symphony Concert by the Leibniz University Orchestra

Press release from

The programme includes works by Grieg, Larsson, and Sibelius.

One of the most famous and popular works of romantic orchestral music will be a prelude to the final semester concert "Midsommar" by the collegium musicum on Sunday 1 July 2018, at 18.00. "Morning Mood", the first part of the Peer Gynt Suite by Edvard Grieg, will open the symphony concert by the Leibniz University orchestra in the atrium of the main building ("Lichthof"), Welfengarten 1, 30167 Hannover.

Following the epic work by the Norwegian, the orchestra will perform Lars-Erik Larsson''s Concertino for horn, featuring the young soloist Lena Westlund. The hornist, who is a Masters student at Oslo Conservatory of Music, will perform in the Aalborg Symfoniorkester next season. The Concertino for horn by the Swedish composer is influenced strongly by late Romanticism. The highlight of the Nordic concert evening on 1 July will be the second symphony by Jean Sibelius. With its opulent finale, it is one of the most popular works by the Finnish composer.

The collegium musicum is the symphony orchestra of Leibniz University Hannover and currently counts about 80 members. Amongst the members are students, teaching staff, employees and alumni of Leibniz University Hannover and other universities, as well as other amateur musicians. The orchestra is conducted by Sönke Grohmann.
