Visualization and manipulation of repair and regeneration in biological systems using light
Antrittsvorlesung im Rahmen eines Habilitationsverfahrens
Abstract:
Optics has paved the way for a profound understanding of biological repair and regenerative pathways in the last century, particularly in the context of defined cellular systems. However, we are now striving to comprehend cells in their native environment, which presents new challenges for imaging and visualization. Additionally, we aim to interfere with the reaction of cells by applying highly-localized and defined stimuli. This can be on a subcellular level or in a complex cellular context, such as an organoid. All of these objectives can also be achieved through the application of optics, as highlighted in this talk. Some exemplary applications, such as muscle cell manipulation, studying of repair in organoids after laser-based cell damage, or novel modalities for in vivo imaging will be presented.
