Pre-Study Internship

Provision is made for a pre-study internship in several engineering and natural science programmes. This practical training is not always a necessary requirement for enrolment/application – it can be completed by a specific time later on in the course. Please contact the respective practical training office if you have any questions.A pre-study internship should be completed for the following degree programmes:


Area Mechanical/Electrical Engineering and Business Administration

  • Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (Bachelor of Science)
  • Engineering and Business Administration (Bachelor of Science)
  • Power Engineering (Bachelor of Science)
  • Mechanical Engineering (Bachelor of Science)
  • Mechatronics (Bachelor of Science)
  • Optical Technologies (Bachelor of Science)
  • Production and Logistics (Bachelor of Science)
  • Sustainable Engineering (Bachelor of Science)

By the time they apply, candidates should be able to provide evidence of having completed an eight-week technical pre-study internship . However, this practical training may be undertaken at a later stage. For more information, please contact the Practical Training Office of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.


Area Civil and Environmental Engineering

  • Civil and Environmental Engineering (Bachelor of Science)

No pre-study internship is required for the application. However, a thirteen-week practical training must be fulfilled at a later date, at the latest by the time of registration for the bachelor's examination. Further information is available from the Internship Office of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy (German language only).


Area Special Needs Education

  • Special Needs Education (Bachelor of Science)

Candidates wishing to apply for the degree programme in Special Needs Education must already have completed a pre-study internship, i.e. applicants can only enrol once they have completed the pre-study internship. For more information, please refer to the Information sheet on admissions for Special Needs Education.


Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning

  • Architecture (Bachelor of Science) - recommended, not compulsory
  • Architecture and Urban Design (Master of Science)
  • Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning (Bachelor of Science)
  • Landscape Architecture (Master of Science) - recommended, not compulsory
  • Environmental Planning and Territorial Development (Master of Science) - recommended, not compulsory

For the Bachelor's degree programme Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning, a 12-week pre-study internship is required. For the Master's degree programme Architecture and Urban Design, a 13week pre-study internship is required.

For the Bachelor's degree programme Architecture and the two Master's degree programmes Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning and Territorial Development, a pre-study internship is recommended.
