Junior research groups and Grantees in the Heisenberg Programme

Junior research groups offer outstandingly qualified early career researchers the opportunity to implement their own research project and qualify for a professorship or other leading position by independently leading a junior research group. Those funded in the Heisenberg Programme already fulfil all the requirements for appointment to a long-term professorship. The aim is to enable these researchers to prepare themselves for a position of scientific leadership and to further enhance their scientific reputation. They are all competitively selected with their research projects and in all cases there is an external peer review evaluation. Leibniz Universität Hannover recognises this group of individuals as high potentials and supports and promotes them with numerous advisory and qualification measures.

In addition, the junior research group leaders at Leibniz Universität Hannover are entitled to act as first reviewers in doctoral procedures for their own staff. In order to attract and retain exceptional junior research group leaders funded by research programmes, there is a fast track to tenure option available when a junior research group is recruited.
