Leibniz University Hannover offers its researchers and academics an excellent and multi-faceted research environment. The university endeavours to promote excellent early-career researchers, recognise suitable professors at an early stage and ensure they remain at Leibniz University Hannover. In order to attract and retain excellent junior research group leaders, the option of a tenure-track professorship shall be offered.
Procedure
Before the application in one of the above-mentioned funding lines is planned, candidates should already have contact with the prospective host institute or faculty of Leibniz University. Ideally, there is already an academic collaboration with a specific person who can act as a mentor. At the initiative of the Presidential Board and the faculty of the mentor, the examination of a possible tenure-track model can already begin during the preparation of the application for external funding. In order to assess the suitability and connectivity of the junior research group leader to the core research areas of the university and faculty, the examination of a tenure-track model is subject to a coordination process between the Presidential Board, faculty, institute and mentor. The faculties must provide a corresponding tenure position.
If a tenure position has been identified, the appeal procedure starts after evaluation by the funding agency when the second stage of the application procedure has been reached; a prerequisite for the appointment is the approval of the junior research group. If the junior research group has already been approved, the review of the suitability of the candidate and, if applicable, the shortened appointment procedure can start immediately after the contact has been established and the approval documents have been received.
For tenure-track professorships appointed in the fast-track procedure, the interim and tenure evaluations are carried out in accordance with the quality-assurance standards of the respective regulations applicable to tenure-track procedures.
