Short Description

The  Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education for Single-subject Bachelor's Graduates (LBS-Sprint) is aimed at graduates with a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or nursing sciences. The requirement for admission is a Bachelor’s degree in either  Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Nursing Sciences.

Students learn how to teach the chosen vocational subject area of Metals Technology, Electrical Engineering or Nursing, as well as Vocational and Business Education and a teaching subject.

Students can choose from the following teaching subjects: German Studies (only in combination with the vocational subject Nursing), Protestant Religious Education, Mathematics, Physics, Politics and Physical Education.

Students complete four weeks of practical training in the vocational subject area and two weeks in the teaching subject.

Graduates of the  Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education for Single-subject Bachelor's Graduates (LBS-Sprint) may apply for the preparatory phase of teacher training (teacher training period) for technical education.

Course Content

  • The degree programme focuses mainly on the teaching subject, worth 60 credit points, in addition to teaching methodology in the vocational subject area, worth 23 credit points, and Vocational and Business Education, worth 22 credit points.
Course Structure

The degree programme is divided into teaching methodology in the vocational subject area, worth 23 credit points, the teaching subject, worth 60 credit points, and Vocational and Business Education, worth 22 credit points. The degree programme concludes with a written Master’s thesis, worth 15 credit points. The Master's thesis can be written in the vocational subject area or in vocational and business education.

In addition, students must prove that they have met the condition of completing 8 credit points each in the vocational subject area and in Vocational and Business Education, provided that the previously completed bachelor's degree was a purely technical study and no knowledge of the didactics of the vocational subject and/or vocational and business education is verifiable.

The following applies to mechanical engineering and electrical engineering:
In accordance with Annex 5 of the Ordinance on Master’s Degrees for Teacher Training in Lower Saxony (Nds. MasterVO-Lehr), students without a relevant vocational qualification must instead complete 52 weeks of practical training before registering their Master’s thesis.

The following applies to nursing:
Relevant professional training must be proven when applying.

Recommended Abilities

In order to enter the teacher profession, students should have an interest in teaching the vocational subject area that they have already studied and the teaching subject, and should enjoy interacting with people; they should also have good communication and organisational skills, and the ability to self-reflect and engage in structured thinking.

Completion of the  Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education for Single-subject Bachelor's Graduates (LBS-Sprint) is the prerequisite for applying for the preparatory phase of teacher training for technical education.

The degree programme was explicitly designed for students with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Nursing Sciences, who wish to teach at a vocational school.

Applications can be made in the summer and winter semesters for electrical engineering and metal technology, and only for the winter semester for nursing.
