Short Description
Music is offered as a second subject (or supplementary teaching subject) within the master’s degree programme Special Needs Education for Schools. As first subject Special Needs Education is studied.
As part of the master''s programme "Special Needs Education for Schools", the study of the second subject "Music" will be continued at HMTMH. The master''s programme will focus more on subject-didactic studies with suitable seminars, workshops and school internships in the special needs education sector.
Nevertheless, musical practice (percussion, drumset, vocals, integrative band work) and theoretical parts (listening to music, school-practical arranging, music psychology etc.) will also be taught. Admission to the master''s programme Special Needs Education for Schools at Leibniz University Hannover also entitles the holder to continue studies in the second subject of music at the HMTMH.

Studying the subject music in the master's programme, there are consecutive contents in the field of music didactics and school practice, as well as courses in the field of special needs education, which can be completed in one semester.
- Specialized practical skills in the field of instrumental playing and singing voice
- Prelude on an instrument (musical creativity - genre-independent)
- Auditions (intonation, tonal and musical creativity - also genre-independent)
- Hearing skills (distinction of intervals, triads, rhythms, etc.)
- Basic musical knowledge in the field of music theory and music history
- Music educational awareness or previous experience in the field of music education
Graduates of this degree programme are entitled to embark on the preparatory phase of teacher training at a special school and/or integrative/inclusive school. In addition, graduates may also embark on an academic career, e.g. by pursuing a doctorate.
Former students work at schools and colleges, in continuing education and training. Apart from working in schools, Job opportunities can be in the area of special education work in early intervention, counseling, as well as disability, integration and family support.
The second subject music specifically is designed for work areas in inclusive schools, elementary music education and the individual special educational areas of language, learning, emotional, social and mental development.
Work opportunities apart from schools are in the field of educational cooperation in protective workshops and other facilities for the disabled. Based on this programme, specializations in the fields of music geragogy or music therapy can be acquired.
