Freedom and artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) has developed into a central societal issue, particularly since the emergence of virtual voice assistants such as Alexa or the text-based chatbot ChatGPT. With its assistant systems, AI can increase an individual’s freedom by opening up new possibilities and opportunities.

But AI can also limit an individual’s freedom, often without this even being noticed. To strengthen the freedom of individuals and society in the future as well, more transparency and opportunities for participation in AI technology are necessary.

Participating researcher

At the Institute of Artificial Intelligence, Prof. Dr. Marius Lindauer and his team are working on questions regarding democratisation and social responsibility in the development of AI applications. His goals include understandable, energy-efficient and universally available AI systems at all levels.
