The Institute of Artificial Intelligence invites applications for the position of a Doctoral Researcher (m/f/d) within the field of Automated Machine Learning (Salary Scale 14 TV-L, 100 %) starting at the earliest possible date. The position is initially limited until 30.06.2027 with the possibility of extension. The position can also be filled by doctoral candidates based on remuneration in salary scale 13 TV-L.

Your Tasks

Our research team at Leibniz University Hannover focuses on machine learning, automated machine learning, and reinforcement learning. We are seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. student or PostDoc to join us. You will have the opportunity to explore cutting-edge research topics, focusing on the development of novel approaches to automated deep learning aiming for energy-efficient architectures, or human-centered approaches. In addition to conducting innovative research, you will also engage in scientific exchange and active cooperation with related research groups, including presenting research results in workshops, conferences, and journals. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to contribute to open-source projects, thereby promoting the broader dissemination of research findings and advancing the field of sustainable AI. We are looking for candidates with a passion for sustainability, human-centered methods and innovation. Your Profile

Prerequisite for employment is a completed academic university degree (Master's degree) in computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, statistics or related disciplines, as well as a PhD in the broader field of artificial intelligence (preferably related to AutoML topics).

In addition, the following qualifications are desirable:

  • Excellent relevant academic achievements
  • Strong research performance in the field of AI
  • Experience in managing people
  • Solid understanding of and hands-on experience with machine learning and deep learning
  • Advanced programming skills in Python, preferably familiarity with PyTorch
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written, including the ability to write scientific texts (German beneficial)
  • Motivation to work independently and in an international team
