Research Associate (m/f/d) in the field of Biomaterial Design

(Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 67 %)

The Institute of Technical Chemistry has a vacancy for a Research Associate (m/f/d) in the field of Biomaterial Design (Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 67 %) as of 01.07.2024. The position is limited to 3 years and offers the possibility of completing a doctorate.

The “Cell Culture Technology” working group works with the establishment and characterization of three-dimensional (3D) cell culture systems. Various human cell types are cultured as cell aggregates, on scaffolds and in hydrogels under physiological conditions similar to in vivo. In addition, the group modified various cell types with genetically programmed biosensors and examined their response in various 2D and 3D cultivation systems (cell aggregates, hydrogels and scaffolds).

The project and tasks

The advertised position is part of the interdisciplinary joint project Matrix Evolution. The aim of the project is to recreate the hierarchical and dynamic structures of the ECM in model cell niches in the laboratory. Our group will approach this goal through cellular responses and online measurements of oxygen and other parameters. The core task is to modify human cells using lentiviral vectors with genetically encoded sensors and to culture these cells in hierarchical 3D matrices to observe cellular responses in time and space.

Position requirements

A university science degree (Master or equivalent) in a relevant field, e.g. life science, biotechnology, molecular biology or technical chemistry, is a prerequisite for employment. Experience in the field of molecular biology, microbial fermentation, mammalian cell culture and Microscopy is an advantage. The ideal candidate has a keen interest in 3D cell culture technology issues and a willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team. Very good computer skills and English language skills are also expected.

The university aims to promote equality between women and men. For this purpose, the university strives to reduce under-representation in areas where a certain gender is under-represented.
