The Institute of Production Engineering and Machine Tools (IFW) welcomes applications for the following position available from now on: Student Assistant on the subject of "Laser processing of cutting tools" (23 hours per month)

The position is limited to 3 months for project-related reasons.

Your job at a glance

Polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PcBN) is a highly wear-resistant material and is commonly used for machining hard materials due to its exceptional hardness. However, conventional processing methods of PcBN such as grinding are often associated with high costs, long processing times, and significant resource consumption. Laser-based methods offer a promising, contactless, and wear-free alternative. Together with us, you will help develop and optimize these innovative laser processes to enable low-damage and reliable machining of PcBN.

The area of responsibility includes support with:

  • Planning and realisation of laser processing experiments
  • Data acquisition and evaluation
  • Development of process improvements

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a motivated student assistant to join our team with immediate effect.

Your profile:

  • You have a good command of German
  • Independent and structured work is a matter of course to you
  • Knowledge in the field of machining is required

A prerequisite for employment is valid enrolment at a German university in a degree programme relevant to the position (mechanical engineering, chemistry, materials science or similar subjects).
