The Institute for Environmental Economics and World Trade is an international and interdisciplinary research institute within the Faculty of Economics. It deals with issues of sustainable development, particularly in the context of environmental, development and agricultural economics. A particular focus is on the analysis of political and economic transformation processes in developing and emerging countries and their significance for global sustainability goals.
The Institute for Environmental Economics and World Trade welcomes applications for the following position starting September 1, 2025 or at the earliest possible date: Doctoral Researcher in the field of Environmental and Development Economics (salary scale 13 TV-L, 65 %)
The position is limited to 3 years, with the possibility of an extension.
Your role
- You are involved in research activities within the long-term project “Thailand Vietnam Socio Economic Panel (TVSEP)” and support the collection and processing of primary data from Thailand and Vietnam (including travel). The TVSEP long-term project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) (see: https://www.TVSEP.de) and deals with topics such as the long-term consequences of shocks, migration and rural change.
- You will present your research findings at international conferences and write and publish articles in leading journals.
- You will have the opportunity to do a doctorate as part of the TVSEP long-term project.
- You will be involved in the planning, organization and implementation of courses and examinations.
- You will support the supervision of student work in the field of environmental and development economics.
Who are we looking for?
The successful candidate must hold a university degree in economics, agricultural economics, economic geography or related fields. In addition, you have excellent skills in econometrics and the statistical software Stata or R. Very good written and spoken English and German language skills are required. A strong interest in research on topics of rural transformation, climate change, environment, migration or globalization is required, as well as flexibility, initiative and teamwork in an international research team.
