Short Description

Site engineering is offered as a vocational subject within the bachelor''s programme Technical Education. In addition, a second teaching subject must be studied. Please note the subject combination options.

The specialisation in site engineering with 92 credit points is part of the bachelor’s degree in technical education (180 CP).

Subject-specific studies cater primarily for the construction industry in the field of site engineering, and in particular where the building plans of architects and civil engineers are implemented in structural work and finishing. Elements of the degree courses in architecture and civil engineering create a joint basis; courses on material science, construction and production methods in the site engineering trades build on this. Our extensive workshops and laboratories are intensively used for classes on principles of chemistry and physics, material testing and investigation of production methods.

Teaching methodology focuses on the different types of vocational schools and colleges from career guidance and first vocational training to continuing and further education. A central feature of the teaching methodology part of the course is the analysis of work processes and the subject-specific knowledge required for site engineering. This plays a role in devising vocational learning processes, with particular emphasis placed on developing experiments to illustrate scientific, technical and construction principles

Course Structure

The professional specialisation in site engineering can be divided essentially into three areas:

1. Subject-specific foundation courses from the degree programmes in architecture and civil engineering

These include foundation modules on design and presentation, building material science, support structure science, building physics and history of architecture.

2. Work-related and subject-specific courses for site engineering

Central modules in this area are material science and production methods in structural engineering. As a basis for these, students take foundation courses in chemistry, mechanics, electrical engineering and mathematics.

3. Subject-specific teaching methodology for the professional specialisation in site engineering

Modules in this area deal with the fundamental educational framework for apprentices in the building trade, the importance of experiments and laboratory tests in learning processes on material science and production methods, analysis of materials, constructions and production methods under the aspect of teaching methodology, and information and communication technologies in learning processes in site engineering.

Career Opportunities

The subject specialisation in the degree programme in technical education mainly serves as a preparation for the consecutive master’s degree in technical education. The relevant specialisations in the internships in vocational and business education can also open up fields of professional activity in vocational training in trade associations and chambers of commerce.

Admission Requirements

Some subjects in the Bachelor Teacher Training Course for Technical Education are restricted: Computer Science, English Studies (school subject: English), Food Science, German Studies (school subject: German), Politics, Spanish Studies, Sports.

Some subjects in the Bachelor Teacher Training Course for Technical Education are admission-free: Catholic Religious Education, Chemistry, Colour Technology and Interior Decoration, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Metals Technology, Physics, Plant Operations and Manufacturing of Wood Products, Protestant Religious Education and Site Engineering.

The exact admission requirements can be found in the admission regulations:

Application Deadlines

For a subject combination with at least one subject with restricted admission:

01.06.-15.07. of the year for the winter semester

  • First-year students (application for the 1st semester) can only apply for the winter semester.
  • Those continuing their studies (application for higher semesters) can also apply for the summer semester (December 1st - January 15th).

For a subject combination with two admission-free subjects:

01.06.-30.09. of the year for the winter semester

  • First-year students (application for the 1st semester) can only enrol in the winter semester.
  • Students resuming their studies and transfer students (application for higher semesters) can also enrol in the summer semester (December 1st - March 31st).

The following applies to applications from non-EU countries:

  • VPD from uni-assist OR a passed assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung) of a preparatory foundation course (Studienkolleg) is required.
  • Applications for the Studienkolleg must be submitted by July 15th.
