Message from university management to LUH students

Start of the new lecture period on 20 April

Dear students,

On Monday, the new lecture period will commence at LUH. I wish you a successful start to the semester, as well as inquisitiveness and plenty of patience where necessary. All colleagues will do their utmost to facilitate the best courses possible in such times.

Please visit the website "Studying online: digital learning in summer semester 2020" at https://www.uni hannover.de/en/universitaet/aktuelles/corona/online-studium/ to obtain information on work methods, organisational structures, technical specifications and didactic requirements. In the past few weeks, great developments have been made in terms of didactics, content and organisation. Teaching staff have worked intensively on implementing online teaching, to be able to provide you with a semester that is both enriching and demanding.

Subsequent to the recent resolution by the German federal and state governments, the buildings of Leibniz University Hannover will remain closed to students until 3 May. However, we hope that after 3 May limitations on contact can be relaxed. This would, for example, enable those who do not have access to sufficient technical equipment to use the PC labs again or to access laboratory areas and specific work areas - under strict compliance with the regulations on distancing and hygiene and in small groups.

TIB circulation desks will be reopened on 27 April, however, all reading and study areas will remain closed for the time being.

We are currently in the process of determining timelines for rescheduling examinations that were suspended in the winter semester - taking into account distancing rules. These are expected to start during Pentecost week continuing well into July. Please rest assured that we will provide information on timelines for rescheduled examinations at least two weeks in advance.

In light of the uncertain situation, it may be necessary for our university to adapt and change quickly to meet new circumstances. In order to face this crisis together, remaining lenient, optimistic and flexible will therefore be all the more important.

Since not everything will run smoothly and to the satisfaction of all those involved from the very first online course, please do not hesitate to approach members of teaching staff with any issues that may arise. In addition, the colleagues at the Student and Academic Matters Department as well as the Vice President for Teaching and Academic Programmes and her team will be happy to answer your queries.

I wish all of you - all of us - a successful summer semester 2020!

Yours sincerely,

Prof. Dr. Volker Epping
President
