Students of all disciplines are eligible to apply for the scholarship programmes Deutschlandstipendium or Landesstipendium Niedersachsen

For the coming winter semester, Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) is once again offering Deutschlandstipendium or Landesstipendium Niedersachsen scholarships. Interested students may submit their application for a Deutschlandstipendium scholarship from Monday 14 August. The application period for Landesstipendium scholarships is expected to begin in mid-October.

Deutschlandstipendium

The federal government established the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship programme in 2011 to promote hard-working students. Private sponsors provide half of the scholarship while the federal government covers the remainder. To date, LUH has awarded more than 1,000 Deutschlandstipendium scholarships.

LUH students enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate degree programmes who are in their individual standard period of study throughout the funding period are eligible to apply. In addition to academic achievements, other criteria, in particular social criteria, may be taken into account in the selection process. Scholarship holders receive €300 per month provided over a period of two semesters. Applications for 2023/2024 may be submitted between 14 August and 30 September 2023.

Landesstipendium Niedersachsen

The Landesstipendium Niedersachsen scholarship has been awarded since 2009. Funding is provided by the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony. Last year, 1,891 scholarships were awarded, of which 1,199 were awarded on the basis of the criterion "educationally underprivileged backgrounds/first-generation students" and 197 on the basis of the criterion "refugees with difficult starting and general conditions". The remaining scholarships were awarded on the basis of talent and commitment.

The respective university conducts the selection procedure. Scholarships are usually awarded as a one-off payment of €500 to enable as many students as possible to benefit from a scholarship. Scholarships can be awarded to students enrolled in an undergraduate programme or consecutive master’s degree programme at LUH, who have not taken leave of absence and will complete their degree in the standard period of study. Prospectively, applications can be submitted from mid-October.
