30.01.2026 - Ice Hockey at the "Pferdeturm"
One of the hidden gems in Hannover is our peerless ice hockey club. Sports fan or not, get drawn into this unique sportsclub that actually only plays in the 3rd tier of german ice hockey competition, but still has a sold out arena nearly every game with its passionate fans.

07.02.2026 - Bowling
Whether as a competition or simply to have fun - our event is all about having a good time. You can put your bowling skills to the test in a relaxed atmosphere. Costs for the bowling alley are included.

28.02.2026 - Cinema Night
Hannover has a long cinema history. We will be going to one of the smaller cinemas in Hannover. As the screening programmes are announced shortly beforehand, you will be sent information about the film and the location by email. The date may also change as a result.

08.03.2026 - "Iftar" Cooking Night
We want to arrange an "iftar", a festive meal to break fasting during Ramadan. Everyone is welcome to attend. If you are muslim and want to contribute an authentic dish of your choice you are welcome to contact us so we can arrange any preparations for that. In our office kitchen we then want to work together to create a hopefully tasty meal for all of us.

14.03.2026 - Daytrip to Lüneburg
Lüneburg is one of the oldest and most historic cities in rural Lower Saxony. Famous not only for its neighboring Lüneburger Heide national park, the city itself has a lot to offer and broadcasts the beautiful charm of a small, old northern German town.

12.04.2026 - Excursion to Celle Castle
As the region of Hannover is rich in monarchic history, an underrated gem lies just nearby Hannover. Celle Castle is the old seat of the dukes in renaissance time is a beautiful palace to explore. Just outside the region of Hannover, it is a nice rural place in southern Lower Saxony.

German Language Course
LUH offers German language courses for international doctoral candidates, researchers, and postdocs to facilitate their entry into academic life. These courses help to deepen existing language skills and to better navigate life in Germany.

German Language Course Level A1.1 [Already started]
The International Office offers a German course level A1.1 in cooperation with the Bildungsverein. This course comprises 30 teaching units. This course is designed for International doctoral candidates, researchers and postdocs.
Participation fee: 150€ per person + work materials for class
Venue: Leibniz Language Center

Counseling at the International Office
Appointments can be made at any time by email or telephone. Counseling is available on the following topics: visas/residence permits, enrollment, cotutelle, course programs, stays abroad during doctoral studies, and general questions about your stay. Contact details are provided below.

Counseling at the Mechanical Engineering Campus in Garbsen
As the university is divided into several campuses, some of which are quite far apart, the International Office regularly offers consultation hours for doctoral students in Garbsen. These take place in room 001 (building 8132). Please make an appointment in advance.
