Preparatory courses and introductory events
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I SUBMIT MY APPLICATION?
Application status
You can check the status of your application at any time via the LUH application portal. You will also receive information about all steps in the application process by email. Once the selection process has been completed, you will receive a written acceptance or rejection letter.
Notices of acceptance and rejection:
- Acceptances and rejections will be sent out after the application process has been completed and internally processed. If you receive an offer of a place, your letter of admission will be available for download in the application portal.
- Important: If you are accepted, you must accept the place within the specified period. If you miss this deadline, the place will be allocated to someone else.
- If you are accepted, you must also submit any missing documents (e.g. proof of health insurance, payment of the semester fee). Only then can the university enrol you.
- If you are unavailable during the application process, you can authorise a trusted person in writing to accept the study place on your behalf.
- Have you applied with an international school leaving certificate? If your application is not sufficient for direct admission to a degree programme, but you are eligible for admission to the preparatory college, you will receive a notification and the university will automatically register you for the admission procedure of the Lower Saxony Preparatory College (Studienkolleg).
Enrolment
- After admission and acceptance of your place at the university, you will be enrolled (registration). You can print out your enrolment certificate yourself via the LUH Portal.
- After enrolment, you will receive
- Your LeibnizCard (student ID card). Depending on your enrolment date, the LeibnizCard will be sent to you by post from mid-September (winter semester) or mid-March (summer semester).
- Your German semester ticket. You will receive the semester ticket as a digital ticket that you can save on your smartphone. The semester ticket is valid from 1 October in the winter semester and from 1 April in the summer semester.
- Your LUH ID and an initial password, which you can use to log in to the university's online services.
- An invitation to preliminary courses and introductory events for your degree programme.
What to do if you don't get a study place
- Rejection letter: Did you apply and not get a place at university? Find out about alternative (study) options.
- Lottery: If places become available after the selection process has been completed, they will be allocated shortly before the start of the semester via a lottery. Applicants who have not previously applied can also take part.
- Study place exchange: Have you been offered a place but would prefer to study at another university? Find out about the possibility of a study place exchange.
- Withdrawal from a study place: If you do not wish to accept the place you have been offered, you can return it using the study place withdrawal form.
