You have successfully completed your application? What are the next steps? On these pages you can read about what can be important after you have submitted your application for a study place.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I SUBMIT MY APPLICATION?

Notices of acceptance and rejection:

  • Notices of acceptance and rejection will be sent out after the application process and internal processing have been completed and will be made available in the portal.
  • In the case that you are accepted, you are required to confirm your acceptance of the place within a set period. You will be informed about how the acceptance of your study place works and what additional documents you might need to submit (e.g. evidence of health insurance, payment of the semester contribution). Only then will the university be able to matriculate you, i.e. register you officially as a student.
  • If you are away, please ask a person you trust to check your mail. You can also authorise this person in writing to accept a place on your behalf. Alternatively, you can check the status of your application in the portal and also accept your place at the university there.

Additional information

After your enrolment

  • After your enrolment (depending on the enrolment date) your student ID card (LeibnizCard), which includes the semester ticket for public transport, will be sent to you, either from mid-September (winter semester) or mid-March (summer semester). The semester ticket is valid from 1 October (for the winter semester) or 1 April (for the summer semester). Further information and a route map can be found on the AStA website (in German only).

  • After your enrolment you can then print out your certificate of enrolment via our online portal. You will also receive your personal LUH ID and initial password in order to register for the university's online services.

  • You will be informed by the university about preparatory courses and introductory events and invited to the welcome ceremony for first-semester students.

  • The checklist for new students will be a useful tool when you start at Leibniz University Hannover.

What to do if you don't get a study place

  • Lottery: If places become free after the end of the regular selection procedure for bachelor’s and master’s degree courses with admission restrictions, a lottery will be held.

  • Swapping your place: Have you been allocated a place but would prefer to study at another university? Find out here about the possibility of swapping your place.
