Research Software Engineer (m/f/d)

(Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 100 %)

The Joint Lab of the L3S Research Center and the Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) invites applications for the position of a Research Software Engineer (m/f/d) (Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 100 %) to start at the next possible date. The position is initially limited to 3 years.

Work areas

Your work areas will include:

  • Research Data Management and Semantic Technologies
  • Development of a Research Data Management-System within an information infrastructure project of a collaborative research centres (CRC) in the domain of engineering
  • Development of an integrated environment for Collaborative Vocabulary Design


Applicants must hold a successfully completed university degree (Master or comparable) in a relevant field such as Computer Science or Mathematics.

Furthermore, the following skills and qualifications are expected:

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English; Proficiency in German is a plus
  • Excellent proficiency in modern programming languages (esp. Python, Java, Javascript) and modern software engineering methodologies (esp. agile methods, DevOps)
  • Experience and interest in user-centric design and modern Web UI development as well as crowdsourcing and collaborative community applications is a plus
  • Proven team software development skills
  • Familiarity with Semantic Technologies, Data Management according to the FAIR principles, Human-Computer Interaction or Digital Libraries is an asset

Your competence area should be rooted in web software engineering or related fields. You should be able to think creatively, grasp new knowledge quickly, be able to design and develop innovative applications and be interested in mastering complex challenges. You will be responsible to develop innovative and mature information services.
